Keyboard Functions:


Alt+Tab

Task Manager

Print Screen

Alt+Tab:

  • Easily switch between windows, applications, and folders
  • Press tab (while still holding Alt) to switch to the desired selection

Alt+F4:

  • Quickly closes the front window or application

Ctrl+Alt+Del (Windows Task Manager):

  • Applications
    • See applications running in the foreground
  • Processes
    • Be careful on this one
    • Shut down processes that freeze up
    • See program memory usage
  • Performance
    • View total RAM vs. available (in XP: the higher avaialable amount, the better)
      • Note: Vista's Available/Free memory usage will always try to be 0
    • View CPU, RAM, Page File usage
  • Networking
    • Utilization in graphs and percentages
    • Shows each adapter connected
  • Users
    • Connected users
    • Control usage



Print Screen:

  • Take a quick shot of your desktop or open windows with the print screen button
  • Then go to Start>Programs>Accessories>Paint
  • Ctrl+V (Paste) or Edit>Paste and you can see your whole desktop...crop as necessary

Make use of your taskbar and clean up your desktop:

Quick Launch

Instructions:

Figure 1 - Shows no Quick Launch and an unlocked taskbar
Figure 2 - Let's bring up the Quick Launch Programs

  • Right-Click on a blank area of the taskbar
  • Scroll up to Toolbars>Click on Quick Launch
  • You'll now see some icons similar to the ones in the picture
    • These are shortcuts to programs, folders, etc
    • You can move these around, add/delete them, or change what the icon looks like
    • Just drag n drop on the taskbar to add another shortcut

  • These icons only need to be clicked one time not double-clicked like folders (cool!)
